NEWS FROM RESERVED
Reserved Denim love story and wild wild West.
Invented over 150 years ago - they are still the hottest wardrobe essentials. Also in the Reserved collection. Now, with an obligatory retro vibe to them, bringing to mind young Drew Barrymore and Johnny Depp.
Andy Warhol regretted that he had not invented them and Yves Saint Laurent stated: “They are expressive and discreet, they have sex appeal and simplicity- everything I could want for the clothes I design”. Denim trousers got their cult status in the 1970s, on the one hand due to the hippie movement, and on the other hand due to the designers' interest in the country style and the image of cowboys at that time. They had the next popularity peak in the early 1990s. Distressed, moonwashed, high waisted. At that time, all Hollywood stars wore them, on and off screen. And it is precisely the aesthetics of these decades that inspired the new Reserved denim collection. The accompanying advertising campaign was photographed in Almeria, amidst the wilderness of the Spanish desert, reminiscent of the film scenes from those years.
Among the women's designs there are several key models of jeans. Pair the denim blue, slim-fit, high waisted ones with jagged hem with print T-shirts and snake-print boots. The moonwashed ones, also worn high at the waist, are ankle-length and more wide-legged. Ideal match for short denim jackets with oversized sleeves, kept in the same colour palette. Such a total denim look, once promoted by the young Demi Moore, Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore, is now back on trend. Another important element of the collection - dark denim skinnies - will go great with a tight T-shirt or a denim jacket, also made of navy blue denim. The novelty factor is brought by blue, matt palazzo trousers, i.e. trousers with a raised waist and wide leg throughout. They can be worn from morning to night, in the office paired with a shirt, and after hours they are best contrasted with a sports sweatshirt and statement high-heel boots. This look is now being hyped on instagram by world-famous, stylish, street-style influencers. For skirts enthusiasts Reserved created a denim blue model, in very trendy 3/4 length, i.e. mid-calf. It will be perfect will equally long, oversized sweatshirts or tunics. What about fashion eccentrics? Retro-style jumpsuit resembling car mechanic overalls, but worn with high-heeled shoes. This is a reference to one of the hottest autumn trends, i.e. workwear inspirations.
The menswear line of the Reserved collection is dominated by blue jeans in a washed shade, with tapered leg, to be rolled up. They go with a vintage-style suede shirt or a denim jacket. We also pair navy blue denim trousers with a similar cut with a denim jacket, but, for contrast, in a lighter shade. Both models can also be used in combination with white or black turtleneck and obligatory derby shoes. The jacket can also be replaced by a dark denim sheepskin or corduroy brown jacket. Such outfits bring to mind the image of Keanu Reeves in “My own private Idaho” or Johnny Depp in “What's Eating Gilbert Grape”. These film hits from the early 1990s shaped the aesthetics of those years and also inspired the new Reserved collection.
Denim is a classic wardrobe staple that we won't have enough of in the autumn, worn even as a total look. In the same shade or contrasting colours - but with an obligatory retro vibe. Stylish, but sexy. Simple, but cool.
